Enzymicals AG was founded in August 2009 as a spin-off from the University of Greifswald. The business idea of the scientists from the group of Prof. Bornscheuer is the transfer of experience from academic research to a customer-oriented platform for the process development of biocatalytic synthesis strategies for high-value fine chemicals. The business model of the biotech company focuses on the three segments enzymes, chemicals and solutions.
The company has great know-how in biocatalysis and in protein engineering of enzymes for organic synthesis. The close link to the Bornscheuer group allows additional full access to state of the art equipment required for complex R&D projects.

During their career the employees  at Enzymicals worked on a wide range of industry projects not only in the field of white biotechnology. Amongst others they dealt with  the expression and the design of biocatalysts and their application in the synthesis of fine chemicals.

With the successful launch of our catalogue in October 2010, covering e. g. proprietary recombinant isoenzymes of the pig liver esterase, Baeyer-Villiger monooxygenases and transaminases, Enzymicals AG led several enzymes from the lab bench scale to a marketable product. The combination of tailor-made biocatalysts with optimised chemical and technological synthesis routes enable us to expand our business along the whole value chain of the white biotechnology industry.
